An ode to tradition

Beginning of the family business
A journey through history! Wim Peters is the third generation in the Peters family to grow tomatoes. At the beginning of the 20th century, Wim Peters' grandfather started a mixed farm (open field and greenhouse cultivation) in Loosduinen. In the following years, Wim's grandfather and uncle further expanded the business into a tomato greenhouse. For more than a hundred years, the company has been characterized by innovation and progress. Scroll on for the entire timeline!
1985
Wim joins the firm
In 1985 Wim joined the firm of his father and uncle. Before that, he had worked in the business for several years and completed the Secondary School of Horticulture. In 2000 Wim took over the company and it was officially named Kwekerij Wim Peters.
2002
Moving to Someren
In 2002, the company moved from Loosduinen to Someren. Here a completely new location was built with a total area of 41,000 m².
2003
Expansion of 3.3 acres
At the end of 2003 the expansion of the company was completed, with a total area of 74,300 m². During the first years in Someren, Wim specialized in growing standard vine tomatoes.
2009
Takeover location Hoge Akkerweg 10
In 2009, an additional location was added to the company: the nearby Vivaio Peters on Hoge Akkerweg 10. With this 87,000 m² expansion, the total area of the company grew to 16.2 hectares. From then on, the company specialized in plum tomatoes.
2013
Introduction of LED/hybrid lighting
Since 2013, the company has been using LED lighting, which makes it possible to produce high-quality tomatoes year-round. Thanks to interlighting modules suspended between the plants, there is an optimal distribution of light and heat (location Wagenmaker 14).
2014
Expansion of LED/hybrid lighting
Due to the positive results, another 3.5 hectares of LED/hybrid lighting was installed at the Vivaio Peters B.V. site in 2014.
2016
Hailstorm destroys both businesses
In 2016, both sites in Someren were hit hard by a hailstorm. The greenhouses were completely destroyed and had to be demolished.
2017
Rebuilding and a fresh start
Over a year later, both locations were operational again. With the new building, Wim Peters decided to give the company a fresh start. As of early 2018, both locations operate under the same name: Wim Peters Kwekerijen.
2020
Acquisition of Greenco Someren
In 2020, Wim Peters Kwekerijen acquired Greenco Someren. The locations, a short distance from each other in Someren, doubled the company's size. The total acreage grew to 310,000 m². This acquisition was a response to the growing demand for our tomatoes.
2021
The Tomato Cottage
Since April 2021, Wim Peters Kwekerijen has its own retail outlet: the Tomato Hut. Here customers can enjoy the tomatoes themselves, including Mini Cherry Vine tomatoes, Plum tomatoes and Vine tomatoes. The tomatoes are harvested fresh daily and replenished in the farm vending machine. You can't get any fresher! Read more on our Tomato Hut page.
2022
Sales
As of January 1, 2022, Wim Peters Kwekerijen has taken the sale of tomatoes in-house. This is a logical step in the development of the company, which aims to seize opportunities and produce in a customer-oriented way.

The Future of Tradition
Launch of our sustainability vision The Future of Tradition. We want to distinguish ourselves by working towards fossil-free cultivation. We will work together with nature to increase biodiversity and strive for an even more sustainable use of water. We want to assume our responsibility when it comes to adding value to our residual streams. We are also aware of our impact on the local community. Thus, local initiatives in the context of education and healthy food are moving even higher up the agenda. This is the only way we believe we can safeguard our beautiful family tradition for future generations.
2024
Brainport awards nomination
In 2024, Wim Peters Kwekerijen was nominated for the Brainport Awards. The company made it to the top three and had the opportunity to give a pitch on stage. Our financial manager Nick provided an excellent presentation. Although the win did not materialize, it is a huge appreciation to be among such inspiring companies in the finals!
