Every month we give you a peek inside greenhouse. With today's turn: location Hoge Akkerweg 1. At this location we have the most varieties hanging. Our Coeur de Boeuf tomatoes can be found here, but also San Marzano, Cherrytros (Umami) and a new variety in the shape of a drop. A greenhouse with lots of challenges.
At this time, not all varieties are in production at this location. The first San Marzano tomatoes were harvested in week 11. Coeur de Boeuf and drip tomatoes are due in week 13. Our mini cherry (Umami) tomatoes have been in production a little longer.
The fruits of Coeur de Boeuf are still green now, but after all, they are also picked green. How do we know when they are ready to harvest? At some point the tomatoes turn red, but we want to be ahead of the game. The tomato colors from the inside out and that, together with its appearance, makes this tomato so special. As soon as the tomatoes start to color lightly, we harvest them. Because of this they are green/light red in the supermarket and the Tomato Hut
Want to know more about our tomatoes? We'll keep you updated weekly through our news page and social media channels. Curious about the taste of our tomatoes? You are always welcome to come taste them with us at The Tomato Hut.
